Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar, drawing from his expertise in pediatrics, had the privilege of engaging with children and gaining insights into parental expectations. He laid the foundation of NIMS University Rajasthan—a citadel of education for the future generations of India.

Prof.(Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar seamlessly merged his knowledge, attitude, and skills to bring his dream to fruition. Through NIMS University, he made education attainable for students worldwide, offering diverse programs from various disciplines on a unified platform. As the founder and chairperson, he spearheaded the construction of an expansive campus sprawling across 300 acres.

This visionary venture encompassed a medical college, an engineering college, a hospital, and even shopping malls catering to the needs of students, faculty, and staff alike.

During his youth, Prof. (Dr.) Balvir S. Tomar's father, Shri Hotam Singh, expressed his heartfelt desire to see his son become a doctor. Despite harboring aspirations of becoming an engineer, the sudden demise of his father compelled him to embrace pediatrics out of an engineering mind.

After earning his medical degree from Gajra Raja Medical College, Dr. Tomar started his medical practice in the early 1970s. Later, he earned his postgraduate degree from the same college. Prior to focusing on Pediatric Gastroenterology at the renowned King's College in London, he also attended Harvard University.

Dr. B.S. Tomar has had a substantial impact on the area of pediatric gastroenterology throughout the course of his more than 40 years of dedication to the public and medical science. He has also made significant contributions to the development of innovative treatments for Indian Childhood Cirrhosis (ICC), a leading cause of mortality among children under the age of five from the 1970s to the 1980s. At SMS Medical College in Jaipur, Dr. Tomar established the country's first pediatric gastroenterology institute, supported by public contributions. Dr. Tomar's dedication to ensuring that more people have access to advanced medical treatments and research is evident in this institution.

Dr.Tomar has made a substantial contribution to the treatment of ICC, and the medical community recognizes this both in India and worldwide. In recognition of his contributions to the area, he has won various honors and awards, including the renowned Rajiv Gandhi Award, the Chikitsa Ratan, the Bharat Gaurav Award, and other international prizes for his excellence in the fields of pediatrics and gastroenterology.

Dr. Tomar is renowned for his commitment to educating and mentoring the next generation of physicians via his social entrepreneurship endeavors, in addition to his research and clinical work. He has mentored and guided several of the top pediatric gastroenterologists in India today, in addition to instructing innumerable young medical professionals.

His deep concern for individuals suffering from incurable diseases eventually led him to establish a hospital that epitomized compassion—NIMS Hospital.

Gradually, he introduced an array of technologically advanced tools and technologies to ensure that the graduates of NIMS University emerged as valuable assets to any organization they joined.

Currently, NIMS is only progressing to building world-class infrastructure with a state-of-the-art AI and Robotics research center, classified lecture halls, and improving the NIMS Super-specialty to a greater extent. His involvement as a job creator throughout the numerous sectors he has forayed into demonstrates this visionary entrepreneur's efforts to promote an independent India (Atmanirbhar Bharat).
