There’s a small silver lining in the Covid-19 year, a cooler summer at least for now.
The Met department has predicted more showers in the next one week because of twin cyclonic circulations.
The director of Ranchi Meteorological Centre, S.D. Kotal, on Sunday said Jharkhand will continue to witness thunderstorm and rain for the next one week.
“Thunderstorm and rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds are expected in the southern, northern and central parts of Jharkhand till May 9,” said Kotal.
He said the Nor’westers, which is an April-May phenomenon, is frequent this year. “This is preventing the mercury from soaring,” he said.
Sunday’s satellite pictures indicated a cyclonic circulation over northern Madhya Pradesh and an east-west trough stretching out from Rajasthan to Bengal crossing Jharkhand.
Statistics revealed that places such as Gumla, Chandil (Seraikela-Kharsawan) and Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum) recorded over 5mm rain in the past 24 hours.
In 2019, places such as Daltonganj and Jamshedpur clocked over 40°C in the first week of May. This year, the mercury is much below normal.
