At least two people were injured when a 60-feet-long bridge collapsed in Bokaro district, police said on Sunday.

A heavy vehicle got stuck under the debris after slabs of the bridge crashed at 5am on Sunday near Pordag village under the jurisdiction of Nimiaghat police station.

Vehicular movement from Phusro-Giridih to Dumari almost came to a standstill.

“The traffic movement came to a halt in the area, around 60km from Bokaro,” said Niraj Kumar, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Dumari.

The bridge connected Bokaro-Giridih with Dumari town of the district.

“The bridge was built around 70 years ago near the Pordag village,” he said.

An alternate route has been opened for commuters, the sub-divisional police officer said.

“A truck loaded with bricks got stuck under the crashed slabs,” he said, adding that the vehicle has been pulled out of the debris.
