Train services to be affected in Chakradharpur division on Thursday

The reason is traffic-cum-power block for launching steel girders of a road overbridge between Barajamda and Barbil station

Train services in Barajamda - Barbil section of South Eastern Railway's Chakradharpur division will remain affected on Thursday in view of a traffic-cum-power block for launching of steel girders of a road overbridge between Barajamda and Barbil station.

The Howrah-Barbil Jan Shatabdi Express leaving Howrah on Thursday will be short terminated at Barajamda while the return trian Barbil-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express will originate from Barajamda. Therefore, the service of the train in both the directions will remain cancelled between Barajamda and Barbil on Thursday, February 3.

Apart from this as many as four local passenger trains will be short terminated at various stations while a couple of trains will run on a diverted route , because of the traffic-cum- power block.

SER gets record earning of Rs 257 crore through scrap sale

As a result of continuous efforts to accomplish the mission “Zero Scrap” zone, South Eastern Railway has achieved a record scrap sale of Rs 257 crore during the period April 2021 to January 2022 of the current financial year (2021-22). The scrap lots were sold on competitive and transparent e-auction platform. This is in comparison to the sale of scrap materials worth Rs 151 crore achieved during the corresponding period of the last fiscal.

The scrap sale of Rs.257 crore has been achieved by selling 26,257 metric tonnes of scrap rails, 97,167 number of pre-stressed concrete sleepers, 1,045 number of condemned wagons, 67 number of condemned coaches, one condemned loco , two diesel locos, 872 tonnes of non-ferrous scrap, 16,284 tonnes of ferrous scrap and other miscellaneous items. A railway spokesperson said making South Eastern Railway a “Zero Scrap” zone was one of the mission areas of the Indian Railways.

"Necessary steps are being taken by all the railway divisions and workshops to realise value from sale of unserviceable materials lying along tracks, workshops, sheds, coaching depots etc, " he added. Notably, sale of scrap materials helps in revenue generation and also in maintaining better upkeep of the railway premises.
