RIMS director Dr. DK Singh said clear guidelines should be given to institutions so that the law is properly upheld

Koshish, the field action project of TISS, Mumbai, organised a seminar on ‘access to abortion: legislation, limitation and possibilities’ on Saturday at RIMS.

Issues related to physical freedom of women and rights to get rid of unwanted pregnancy in case of minors or for women incapable of giving consent, were discussed in the presence of 75 participants, including doctors and advocates.

Apurva Vivek, advocate and coordinator of Koshish, said the meet was held keeping in mind the women and girls coming to shelter homes, unable to terminate their unwanted pregnancies. “Service delivery should be as per the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (1971)”, said he. RIMS director Dr. D.K.Singh said clear guidelines should be given to institutions so that the law is properly upheld.
