Chatra district administration on Monday facilitated the admission of a 35-year-old bedridden man to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) following the instruction of chief minister Hemant Soren over Twitter.

Hemant, who is quick to respond to people in distress, was tagged by Twitter user Md Taslim who had shared a news report on the plight of Khushlal Singh Bhokta who had been bedridden for eight years in the absence of treatment.

In his tweet, Taslim had asked Hemant to do the needful for Bhokta and improve the health care service in the district.

In his response, the chief minister tagged Chatra deputy commisioner (DC) Jitendra Kumar Singh and directed him to ensure the best medical care for Bhokta and a social security scheme for his family.

“Today, we admitted Bhokta to RIMS and also requested the hospital authority to ensure the best treatment for him,” the Chatra DC said.

He said Bhokta had been admitted to RIMS in June last year, but he left the hospital a week later without informing the doctors.

“He is reluctant to stay at the hospital. Even today, he was not willing to go to RIMS. But this time, we will ensure that he undergoes the full treatment. In 2012, he fell down from the rooftop and suffered injuries that affected his mobility. He is also suffering from bedsore and has become quite weak,” the DC added.

Bhokta is a resident of Amkudar village under Kanhachatti block. Bhokta’s wife had died seven years back while his father Bhikhan Singh passed away last year.

His mother Manwa Devi is the sole bread-earner and takes care of Bhokta and his eight-year-old daughter.

DC Singh said the district administration had issued an Ayushman Bharat health card to Bhokta and a ration card to his family last year.“Today I asked the block development officer to start the process to allocate a house to the family.”
