The JMM, which is leading an alliance government along with the Congress and the RJD in Jharkhand, has accused the Election Commission (EC) of being controlled by the BJP and sharing confidential documents with the party.
Addressing the media in Ranchi on Tuesday evening, JMM central general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya accused the BJP of controlling all constitutional institutions of the country.
“A clarification was sent from the Jharkhand chief minister’s office to the EC (in May this year) on a complaint by the BJP in an office-of-profit case. It was a confidential document. But the three-term BJP MP from Godda (in Jharkhand), Nishikant Dubey, released the letter on Twitter.“We want the EC to clarify how the official document reached a BJP MP. It is no coincidence that we are witnessing all constitutional bodies being controlled by the BJP,” Bhattacharya said and dared the EC to take legal action under breach of the Official Secrets Act against Dubey.
The JMM senior leader said: “The Hemant Soren government won the trust vote in the Assembly on Monday and on the same night this letter was released on Twitter.”Bhattacharya then challenged Dubey to disclose the contents of the letter that the EC had sent to Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais on the plea to disqualify Soren as MLA.
“A delegation of UPA leaders met the governor a few days back and the governor had assured that the Raj Bhavan would send the decision to the Election Commission in two-three days on the CM issue. It has been five days since the meeting and no communication has been received from the governor. Now we would like the BJP MP to disclose the communication between EC and the Raj Bhavan and release the letter of EC to the governor on Twitter,” Bhattacharya said.
The JMM leader said a narrative was spread in the media that there was no unity among the alliance partners, but the vote of confidence proved it wrong.“Against a narrative spread by selective media that there is no unity in the alliance and amid all rumours our government went for a vote of confidence and the result proved that we are stronger than when we formed the government (having support of the NCP and the CPIML),” Bhattacharya said.Dubey had tweeted two letters from Soren to the EC dated May 25 and May 19, said the signatures were different, and sought a probe.
“One letter had the full signature of the chief minister while the other letter had his initials,” Bhattacharya said.
