In results season, steel town agog with toppers and their marks

DPS bags two top slots; Holy Cross, Pentecostal and others have their share of glory too

It is that time of the year in Bokaro, eastern India’s most sought-after school education hub, when everyone is talking about exam results.

CBSE results are out, and like very year, students, parents, teachers and principals are busy calculating marks and percentages while identifying toppers in various categories.

A.S. Gangwar, the principal of Delhi Public School (DPS)-Bokaro, said he was particularly happy at the way students have performed. “The results are the splendid outcome of relentless efforts of students, teachers and parents. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all students. They must know that they have made us all proud. I would suggest students to take into consideration their ambitions, strengths and above all their interests in choosing their streams.”

This year, DPS-Bokaro has bagged the top spot in both class X and XII board examination with Adyasha Mishra scoring 98.80 per cent in class XII (science) and Harsh Rai obtaining 99 per cent in class X. Besides, of the 950 students who scored 90 per cent and above in class XII boards, 333 are DPS students. Similarly, of the 450 students who obtained 90 per cent and above in class X boards, 126 are from DPS.

DPS’s nearest rival, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, which till last year provided tough competition, was, however, outperformed by students of Holy Cross School (HCS) and Pentecostal School Assembly this time.

HCS, the oldest school of the district, made a mega comeback of sorts, with its students, Ritu Kumari topping in class XII (commerce) by bagging 98.2 per cent and Sudhanshu Raj achieving third rank in the district by obtaining 98.4 per cent.

Pentecostal School also performed well with its student Mimansha topping the district in class 12 (arts) by scoring 98 per cent. Also, Anup Kumar Nayak came second in the district by achieving 98.6 per cent in class X boards. In all, 85 students of class XII and 38 students of class X scored above 90 per cent in Pentecostal.

This year has been a landmark for Saraswati Vidya Mandir (SVM). For the first time in the school’s history, a class X student, Shreya Shradha, scored 99 per cent, sharing first position in state with a DPS student.

Sree Ayyappa Public School proved it’s no pushover with class X student Jyotsana coming third after scoring 98.2 per cent marks. Class XII students Jishan Ahmed and Isika scored 95.4 per cent marks. In all, 45 class XII and 26 class X students scored 90 per cent and above.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya was able to stay in the race though. Thanks to Nitesh Kumar Mahato of class XII scoring 98 per cent and shared the top slot in arts with Pentecostal’s Mimansha. In Class X, Chinmaya’s Ritish Ranjan was the fourth topper in the district by scoring 98.2 per cent, sharing place with Ayyappa’s Jyotasana. In all, 233 students of class XII and 91 students of class X scored 90 per cent and above.

MGM Higher Secondary School’s Yash Raj got 96 per cent in class XII (science) while Senha Jethwa scored 97.6 per cent in class X. Bothe topped the school. As many as 30 students of class XII and 44 students of class X scored 90 per cent and above marks.

DAV Public School-Sector-4 also performed well with 69 students of class XII and 49 students of class X achieved 90 per cent and above marks.

Guru Gobind Singh Public School (GGPS) fared well too with 102 students of class XII and 91 students of class X scoring 90 per cent and above marks. In class X, Yogesh got 97.8 per cent and Anshika 97.8 per cent.

Schools run by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) have also done well. As many as 18 of its class XII students scored 90 per cent and above. Shivani Mishra obtained 95.6 per cent in class X, and a few others got above 90 per cent.

Bokaro town and its residents now await results of IIT-JEE. Acing that, many believe, is the icing on the cake in the life of a student.
