Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato on Tuesday suspended four Opposition BJP legislators till August 4 for unruly behaviour.
The monsoon session commenced on July 29 and is scheduled to end on August 5.
As soon as the proceedings began at 11am, BJP MLAs trooped into the well of the House seeking resignation of chief minister Hemant Soren over allegation of allotment of mining lease, arresting of his political representative in home constituency (Barhait) Pankaj Mishra by the Enforcement Directorate and summon issued again by the ED to his media advisor Abhishek Prasad.
As repeated pleas by the speaker failed to restore sanity in the House, the four BJP MLAs, Bhanu Pratap Sahi (Bhawnathpur constituency), Dhulu Mahato (Baghmara), Randhir Singh (Sarath) and Jai Prakash Patel (Mandu) were suspended for unruly behaviour.
In another significant development of the monsoon session, the first supplementary budget of Rs 3,436 crore for the financial year 2022-23 was passed by voice vote. The House rejected a cut motion brought by Ajsu MLA Lambodar Mahto.
Congress leader and state finance minister Rameshwar Oraon said that the supplementary budget is in the interest of the state as several things left out in the original budget is accommodated through supplementary budget and the additional load will be compensated with better fiscal management.
The supplementary budget has a provision of Rs 556 crores in the establishment head, Rs 1,436 crores in the plan head, Rs 197 crores for the central scheme, Rs 1,006 crores in the state share item and Rs 252 crores in the centrally sponsored scheme.
State parliamentary affairs minister Alamgir Alam while replying to a question on inclusion of ‘Urdu’ words in non-Urdu schools and giving weekly holidays on Friday instead of Sunday in some schools in minority dominated areas said that action has been taken.
Meanwhile, state education minister Jagarnath Mahato who was rushed to a private hospital in Ranchi after complaining of breathing distress and chest pain on Monday during the Assembly session was airlifted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Chennai on Monday late night.
The minister had undergone lung transplant at the Chennai hospital after a Covid infection in 2020.
