A local court on Thursday granted bail to BJP’s Baghmara MLA Dhullu Mahto in connection with an extortion case involving the demand of Rs 40 lakh from a Bihar-based trader.
The court of additional district and sessions judge Alok Kumar Dubey granted bail to Dhullu after hearing a petition submitted by a panel of lawyers led by senior advocate S.N. Mukherjee and directed the MLA to submit Rs 10,000 to the chief minister’s relief fund.
However, Dhullu, who is lodged in Dhanbad jail since May 11, will have to remain there because he is yet to get bail in a case of rape and outraging the modesty of a woman lodged by a former BJP worker on November 23, 2018.
On Wednesday, the court of first class judicial magistrate Sangeeta had turned down Dhanbad police’s petition to take Dhullu on remand in connection with a land dispute case lodged by Rajeev Kumar Srivastava, the nephew of former mines minister O.P. Lal, on March 2.
