The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) started its online Fit India programme for schoolchildren on Wednesday.

CBSE and Fit India, the government’s flagship fitness movement, started live fitness sessions for students from Wednesday to keep them engaged and healthy in the second phase of the countrywide lockdown because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

According to the human resource and development ministry, from April 15 at 9.30am, students can access the live sessions on Facebook and Instagram handles of Fit India Movement and CBSE.

On the first day, fitness instructor Alia Imran showcased exercises in a 34-minute video. The videos will be streamed live at @FitIndiaOff on Facebook and fitindiaoff on Instagram. The Fit India YouTube channel will also stream it live.

Schools in Jamshedpur, which have already started online classes, have ensured that students along with their parents and teachers watch the live videos.

The videos, according to the directive, will focus on staying fit through yoga, aerobics, nutrition and similar fitness activities.

Jamshedpur Public School has included a slot in its online virtual school timetable.

“Usually we start online classes at 7.30am for seniors and 9.30am for junior classes. From Wednesday, we brought forward the junior school timing and have earmarked 9.30am for the Fit India videos. It will be for half an hour and then students join in for their next online class. Wednesday’s session was worth the time and we have received good feedback,” said principal of Jamshedpur Public School Namita Agarwal.

The links are also downloadable for students and parents to watch it later.

Valley View School in Telco has used the links to let their children watch the videos after their regular online classes.

“We have six periods each day and have kept the last period for the Fit India programmes. We have provided the links to the students so that they watch it after the e-classes. The response to online classes are overwhelming and we believe that students will watch it and implement it too,” said Valley View School principal Alka Arvind Kumar.
