Bollywood filmmaker and scriptwriter Iqbal Durrani, with roots in Chaibasa, has offered to help migrant workers from Jharkhand who are stranded in Mumbai during the lockdown.

Durrani of Khuddar and Phool aur Kaante fame said he was disturbed by the sight of thousands of migrant workers near Bandra station in Mumbai on Tuesday and police resorting to lathicharge to disperse them.

“The sight brought back three-decade-old memories when I too had come to Mumbai from Jharkhand and was struggling. Their plight made me tweet chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday asking him to let me know whether any worker from the state was facing problems in Mumbai. I would be glad to extend whatever help I can,” the 63-year-old said.

Durrani was born at Banka in Bihar, but did his schooling and college from Chaibasa in West Singhbhum.

The filmmaker also took to his Facebook account and appealed to his friends in Jharkhand to inform him about any migrant worker stuck in Mumbai.

He said any such person in need of help could reach out to him at iqbaldurrani786@hotmail.com along with his details and location.

“I have come to know from news reports that migrant workers have space to stay, but are not getting food and other supplies. I will try to provide essentials to workers from Jharkhand,” Durrani said.

He was, however, reluctant to share his mobile number on social media.
