Biswajit Manimela, a Bistupur-based social organisation, on Sunday handed over a cheque for Rs 75,000 to the parents of sepoy Ganesh Hansda, who was martyred in a clash between Indian and Chinese troops at Galwan Valley on June 15.

Seven members of the organisation travelled to Kosafalia village in Baharagora block of East Singhbhum, 100km east of Jamshedpur, to hand over the cheque to Hansda’s parents Subda and Kapra.

Hansda’s elder brother Dinesh was also present on the occasion.

“We felt it was our moral duty to extend financial help to Hansda’s family. He was a brave man who sacrificed his life for the nation,” said the deputy president of the organisation, B.S. Prakash Rao.

The members also paid floral tributes to the martyred soldier, who was 21.

Other members of the organisation, Sujit Pramanik, B. Anand Rao, Rakesh Pathak, Subodh Gupta, B. Nachiketa and B. Naman also visited Hansda’s home.

Hansda was pursuing his intermediate in science from LBSM College in Karandih (near Jamshedpur) but dropped out in the second year in 2015.

He went for three years’ NCC training and was selected for the Army during a direct recruitment drive held at Morabadi ground in Ranchi in 2018.

After completing nine months of training at Danapur in Bihar, he was posted in Leh.

Biswajeet Manimela, which is involved in children’s welfare through sports and cultural programmes, had also come forward to donate Rs 1 lakh to the PM’s Relief Fund for the 40 CRPF personnel who died in the Pulwama attack in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14, 2019.

It was also actively involved in distributing food to the needy during the coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown.

The members collected food prepared at the state-of-the-art kitchen, a state government, Tata Steel-Islcon initiative at Ramdas Bhatta Community Centre, before distributing it in slums across Jamshedpur.

Biswajit Manimela also organises blood donation camps and Durga Puja with great fanfare.
