5 rebels held in Palamau

Five members of the banned splinter group of rebels Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) were held by Chhatarpur police on Saturday and sent to central jail on Sunday.

Chhatarpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Shambhu K. Singh said the rebels were identified as Bijay Singh, Harender Singh, Shambhu Baiga, Baldev Yadav and Satender Yadav.

He said Bijay was held first who after interrogation informed the police that four more were hiding in the Gamaar Kharn jungles.

They were waiting for further orders from the sub zonal commander of TSPC, Udesh, to execute another act of violence, they confessed to the police later.

The SDPO said the police laid a siege to Gamaar Kharn jungles where the other four were caught.

Police have seized two motorcycles, five mobile phones and a number of Naxalite pamphlets from the arrested rebels.

The TSPC mainly targets the owners of stone crushing plants, brick kilns, and stone quarries for levy.

Banned-meat cuffs

A man was detained by Bokaro Thermal police here on Sunday morning for allegedly slaughtering cows. Police also seized 9kg of banned meat, equipment to slaughter animals, among others. There was resistance from the villagers when the police raided the house.
