A special team of Garhwa police arrested four persons between Sunday and Monday for the theft of two idols worth about Rs 1 crore.
The four arrested were identified as Amit Dubey, 25, from Garhwa, Dilkush Raushan, 30, Samina Khatoon, 25, both from Palamau, and Shailendra Kumar, 40, from Deheri in Bihar. Khatoon, however, was not produced by the police on Monday.
Shailendra, the goldsmith, was trying to sell the asthdhatu idols of Radha-Krishna, each weighing 51kg. Another accused, Ziauddin Ansari, also from Garhwa, is absconding.
The four were caught by a special team headed by Garhwa SDPO Bahman Tuti that was formed in the wake of recent temple break-in.
On a tip-off, the special team arrested Dubey from his house in Garhwa town on Sunday. He confessed his involvement in the January 4 theft of the idols of Radha-Krishna from a temple at Semaura village under Kandi police station of the district.
In his confessional statement, Dubey divulved details of his gang members, three of who were then arrested. Police have recovered the idols.
