YES
Google gen
We are the Google generation that lacks the patience and the will to sit through our classes to understand what is being taught; we know we can always look it up on the Internet.

Class XI, Sushila Birla Girls’ School, Calcutta
Lost skills
Technology has led to students not developing their own thinking and opinions as it is always spoon-feeding them information. Also, online interactions have stripped them of communication skills.

Second year, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Calcutta
Copy and paste
These days, students just google to complete their projects and homework. They do not take the trouble of understanding what they are reading, they just copy and paste stuff. It is as if they have sent their brain on a break.

Class X, The Heritage School, Calcutta
NO
A misconception
Yes, the Internet has made our lives much easier; information on any subject is available, assignments can be submitted at the click of a button but that does not mean we are overdependent on technology. This has been a popular misconception, especially among the elderly and needs to be cleared.
Soham Das,
Class XI, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, Calcutta
It is a tool
Modern technology is a tool that students can use to make life easier. Those who criticise students for being too dependent on tech don’t realise how quickly they can learn because of it.
Trisha Sarkar,
Third year, KPC Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta
Books come first
Though the current adverse circumstances have forced students to use technology but books are still our glory. Students still go through the prescribed and recommended books thoroughly for the board level and competitive exams. The massive popularity of the national book fairs, the rise of new-age writers and upcoming novels definitely prove that technology still has a long way to go before it can grasp students completely.
Snehasree Das,
Class XII, B.D.M. International School, Calcutta
Smart thinking
Students seem to get a lot of flack for using technology to do everyday tasks. One can go to the library and dig through years of medical journals or just google and get answers under a second. It has emerged as an economical space saving and labour saving device.
