ChatGPT, which stands for Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, is an artificial intelligence-driven chatbot that has been trained to produce information per the requests of the user in an interactive-chat interface. It makes it easy to read long essays and articles by summarising them. It can generate ideas for stories and creative pieces. It is helpful for writing applications and mails. Possibly its best feature is how students can use it to easily learn topics in their syllabus.

Promotes creativity

What ChatGPT will truly do is reduce the rote leaning tendency of students and will promote creativity. As necessary data will be available to everyone, they can use it for the framework but will need to use their own creativity to stand apart from the crowd.

Not original

It’s not difficult to find students taking the help of ChatGPT to solve their homework assignment. In doing so, however, one betrays the very characteristics that make humans different — original and critical thinking. It is only the human brain which is capable of producing ideas: well-balanced with logic and emotions. Artificial intelligence can do everything but lay claim to original thinking.

Loss of skills

If you ask it for causes of World War I, ChatGPT will produce an essay in no time. Be it number theory, calculus or complex algebra — ChatGPT knows it all. But that won’t help students in the long run as it does not build critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for academic and lifelong success.

Imagination lost

First, since ChatGPT spoon feeds students, it can reduce their ability to imagine. Since most students of Class VII and above have mobile phones, it is easy for them to access ChatGPT for every little thing. If they start getting dependent on ChatGPT for homework help, their skill of figuring out answers and step-by-step thinking may gradually be lost.

Insecurity

According to me, ChatGPT is more a nuisance than a help to students. It is true that it can be harnessed by students to help with their homework and all kinds of school projects. However, it actually damages our creative ability and makes us insecure.
