The NEET UG is possibly one of the toughest exams in the world. Every year lakhs of students appear for the exam aspiring to become doctors. But the exponential increase in the number of applicants every year has made it a mammoth task to clear NEET.
To give you an idea, more than 17 lakh people appeared for NEET 2022, and for NEET 2023 scheduled for May 7, more than 21 lakh students have registered. All of them will be competing for exactly 99,763 MBBS seats. So unless and until one adopts a perfect strategy to ace NEET, one can never hope to make it, no matter how many attempts.
Be disciplined
You have to study regularly without fail. Study hours may vary from person to person though.
Make sacrifices
You have to make some sacrifices to achieve something. You may see your friend going to watch movies or on vacations but you have to remain undeterred during the preparatory phase and focus exclusively on your studies. Ruining continuity may affect your preparation.
Avoid getting distracted
If the monotony gets you or you feel bored, don’t go scrolling reels on Instagram. Instead, listen to some music that acts as a stress buster. Watching reels will contribute to your lack of concentration as those reels keep playing in your head even when you have stopped watching them. If you feel like talking to your friends, call them, don’t text. Also, don’t waste too much time on unnecessary thoughts like whether your preparation is enough to crack NEET, whether you would be able to crack NEET this year or that you feel inferior to your friends who study for more hours. Getting caught in an inferiority complex is of no help. If you feel demotivated, listen to podcasts or interviews of doctors instead and learn a little about a doctor’s life.
Adequate sleep
The preparatory phase of NEET is very hectic and you have to store a lot of information in that small head of yours. So, along with hard work you need adequate rest. Even if you study till late at night, don’t compromise on your sleep. You should sleep at least six to seven hours a day. Without proper rest you won’t be able to study effectively and all your efforts will go in vain.
Revision and MCQ practice
It is said by pretty much everyone that the NCERT textbook (especially biology and chemistry) should be learnt by heart. Don’t, however, waste your time trying to memorise coaching modules. You should use coaching (online or offline) to clear your concepts in physics, chemistry and biology. Along with studying, regular MCQ (multiple choice question) practice is also necessary. Take mock tests frequently.
Don’t panic
Last, even after adequate preparation, some students fail to replicate their hard work on the exam day as they get afraid and forget a lot of things due to exam fear. To avoid such issues, you have to develop a proper exam temperament by giving regular tests, even if you are not fully prepared. By attempting tests frequently, you can conquer the so-called “examphobia”.
