The pandemic has hit the hospitality sector hard but it’s not yet time to give up. Just as the industry is adapting to the New Normal to make a turnaround, an institute specialising in hospitality and tourism management is confident of repeating its past record of 100 per cent placement.

Institute of Advanced Management (IAM) has been attracting the giants of the hotel, aviation and retail industry as recruiters. The Oberoi Group, The Taj Group, ITC Sonar, The Park, JW Marriott, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Emirates, Lufthansa and Reliance are some of the companies that have participated in campus placement at the institute.

The placement process starts at the beginning of the third year of the course and more than half the students receive at least two-three job offers.

The graduates are employed in diverse roles — management trainees and in associate and supervisory positions with salary packages in the range of Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per annum in India and up to Rs 10 lakh per annum globally. The highest package received by the institute’s graduates in India in 2020 was Rs 4 lakh.

Since its inception in 1989, IAM (https://iam.ac.in/) has been imparting knowledge and skills to students with its contemporary curriculum. The institute offers a wide range of undergraduate and post-graduate courses that combine academic and professional experiences.

The institution also has a strong network that helps secure training and employment opportunities with hospitality chains nationally and globally in the US, UK, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand and Dubai.

“Hospitality is a profession that forms the founding stones of the service industry. It has a lot of scope for growth and provides great opportunity for young professionals,” Maitreyee Chowdhury, IAM director, said.

Students are encouraged to think big. Along with imparting formal education in hospitality and tourism, the institute focuses on a student’s all-round personality development and their communication and soft skills — an essential element in the hospitality industry. As part of the course, every student has to undergo a mandatory six-month industrial training that equips them with the skills to ace the final campus interviews.

The placements for the batch of 2021 will begin in January 2021.
