Meet the speakers

Dr. Malay R. Dave, Director, JIS College of Engineering: An IIT Kanpur alumnus and a doctorate in environmental engineering from the UK, Dave began his career in the corporate sector. He worked for 15 years in the dye, pigment, and auxiliary chemicals industry and was involved in several environmental projects in India, the UK, the US, and Thailand. Dave was behind the introduction of flipped learning at an institute in India in 2016 — endorsed by AICTE, World Bank Group, Microsoft, MEF University, Istanbul, and UNESCO as the maiden initiative of introducing digital pedagogy in India. He also set up two engineering colleges in western India as founder-director.

Prof. Samir Mukherjee, Head, Department of Emerging Technology and VR, AR, MR, XR, MAKAUT: Mukherjee has 30 years’ experience in technology and communication, having helped create studios and media facilities, besides running two media companies. He conducted extensive research on the possibilities of combining digital media and education with emerging technologies such as OTT, IoT, and cloud computing. He is looking to partner with around 100 engineering institutes and begins a series of training and integration programs to create a new generation adept at implementing AR/VR in pre-existing media outlets.

Pradip Chopra, Chairman, iLEAD: After graduating in chemistry from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta, in 1973, Chopra completed courses in general management and hotel management, and learned German. He is passionate about education and teaches at Xavier’s and JD Birla Institute. He is the convener of the UDAAN education project, an initiative of the TPF (Terapanth Professional Forum) that provides 100 percent scholarship to financially weak meritorious students from across the country. He is also the president of the Murshidabad Heritage Development Society.

Florian W. Carls, Co-founder, Holodeck VR: Carls started off as a marketing specialist at Pioneer Investments and moved on to successful media start-ups with a strong focus on authenticity and human design. A product innovator at heart, Carls has conducted in-depth research on designing for VR and preparing the future workforce for 21st-century skills. With Holodeck VR, Carls offered a patented VR tracking system that allows new interactions and physical freedom in virtual environments for large groups of people.

Dhrubo Banerjee, filmmaker: The man behind such hits as Guptodhaner Sandhane and Durgeshgarer Guptodhan is also an animation wizard. During his six-year stint with Reliance Animation as creative director, Banerjee collaborated on animation series Shaktimaan, Krishna Aur Kans, and Little Krishna. As an ad filmmaker, he worked with brands like Maharashtra Tourism, Ajanta Shoes and SRBM TMT, and a string of celebrities including Sourav Ganguly, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Kapil Dev. His latest project as co-writer and director is the Bengali film Golondaaj.

Ashoke Viswanathan, filmmaker: A graduate of FTII Pune, Viswanathan is a three-time National Award winner. He has been the chairman of the National Film Awards jury and has the distinction of having five films in the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India. He is also a film producer with five feature films and several television serials to his credit. He has directed more than 150 film and television projects apart from nine feature films.

Ashish S.K, Animation, gaming, visual effects, and comics guru: He has set up world-class animation studios in India and created original Indian animated content. Since he embarked on his journey in arts and media, Ashish has been working on creating sustainable careers in film, animation, visual effects, gaming, visual arts, and graphic design. As CEO of Reliance Animation, he was instrumental in creating iconic characters like Little Krishna and Shaktimaan. He traveled across India and brought traditional artists to his studio to create world-class animation and keep traditional art forms alive. The initiative has been recorded in Tom Friedman's international bestseller, The World is Flat.
