Rapidly evolving technology has had an impact on all things, including careers. Today, there are flourishing professions that did not exist 10 years ago and careers are increasingly becoming interdisciplinary. Skill development too has to change accordingly. That is why the Techno India Group has opened a design school in Calcutta in collaboration with Ecole Intuit Lab, a French educational institute of design, strategy and digital creation. The school will offer courses in design, digital art and gaming.
“Our curriculum makes students industry-ready. In fact, some industry people are already calling us for students so there definitely is a demand for skilled employees,” says Clément Derock, co-founder of Ecole Intuit Lab.
“We lacked innovations in art and design in commercial courses. So we reached out to Ecole Intuit Lab, a global school that has its presence in India and understands the local context,” says Meghdut Roy Chowdhury, director of global operations, Techno India Group.

Staffing firm The Creative Group found that creative jobs and tech jobs are becoming even more intertwined — with employers actively seeking expertise in mobile and UX design, along with interactive art direction. As the lines between design and technology blur, here are some jobs for design graduates:

Digital design
Even before you sample a product, you see its packaging. In fact, it is the packaging that often makes one product look different from another. A good design can always help brands grab a consumer’s attention.
Graphic designers create and combine symbols, images and text to form visual representations of ideas and messages. Apart from product packaging, common uses of graphic design include corporate design (logos and branding), editorial design (magazines, newspapers and books), environmental design, advertising, Web design, communication design and signage.

The global gaming industry is 10 times as large as the entertainment industry and is growing at a rapid pace. Game art and design is a subset of game development. Visual artists are involved from the conception. They make rough sketches of characters, settings and objects.
