Meet the speakers:
Mr. Ayush Kasliwal, design thinker and practitioner: An alumnus of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Ayush is one of India’s leading design thinkers, practitioners, and advocates for artisans. With his architect wife Geetanjali, Ayush is the Creative Director and Co-founder of AKFD & AnanTaya, interdisciplinary design companies based in Jaipur. All aspects of the business practices of AKFD and AnanTaya reflect social consciousness and sustainability. Ayush’s work is informed by traditional crafts and artisans and reflects a deep understanding of mythology, architecture, and culture through a contemporary aesthetic.
Mr. Vishal C. Bhand, Associate Professor in Design at Visva-Bharati: Vishal is an INLAKS scholar with an M.S. from the School of Textile Industries, University of Leeds, and a graduate of fine arts from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University. He has taught at the National Institute of Design and made Visva-Bharati the first central university to start a professional design program (Bachelor of Design) while he was head of the department of Silpa Sadana, Visva-Bharati. Vishal is a practicing designer/artist and has widely traveled in India and abroad to work and exhibit.
Priyanka Raja, co-founder of Experimenter: Priyanka co-founded Experimenter in 2009 in Calcutta, with her partner Prateek Raja. The gallery represents and fosters the careers of emerging and celebrated artists from South Asia and the world, and has garnered international acclaim. Priyanka co-established Experimenter’s annual curatorial intensive, Curators’ Hub, in 2010, bringing together respected curators in visual arts over the years. In 2017, she led the organization to launch Experimenter Books, an artists’ book publishing division that produces artists’ book-objects and scholarly gallery catalogs. Priyanka is a member of the Selection Committee of India Art Fair and Art Dubai. She is also a member of the Art and Culture Task Force of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
Mr. Sathish Narayanan, Co-founder & CEO, Nectar Pixels Media: A post-graduate in Industrial Design, Sathish started out as a graphic designer in advertising and has worked in the field of design, multimedia, filmmaking, animation, and visual effects for 28 years. He has worked at Reliance Animation as the Head of IP (Intellectual Property) and has been the director of Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics, Chennai. Sathish is a consultant and advisor to Skill India, NSDC, and Media & Entertainment Skills Council. He is the founder-director of Design Media and Edutainment Solutions Pvt Ltd, a one-stop solution for advertising design, film design, animation film, and visual effects.
Mr. Swarup Dutta, multidisciplinary art and design practitioner, photographer, and scenographer (moderator): Swarup has a master’s degree in Fashion & Textiles from Nottingham Trent University. He has headed the Fashion & Textiles Design Department at NIFT (Calcutta) and was the Dean of Academics at the Indian Institute of Crafts & Design, Delhi. His desire to express himself has taken him to different mediums, from scenography to styling, graphics to interiors, crafts to clothes. He has created events, molding perceptions of public spaces in various cities by hosting site-specific art and design-related installations. Swarup has conceptualized and curated The India Story, an annual event of Indian art, design, crafts, music, and culinary practices in Calcutta. Photography remains his primary passion.
