American pop singer Britney Spears has married herself, she said in an Instagram post on Monday, calling it the ‘most brilliant thing’ she has ever done.
The 42-year-old singer, who got a divorce from her ex-husband Sam Asghari last year, dropped a video of herself on the social media platform in a white wedding gown and veil.
“The day I married myself … Bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it’s the most brilliant thing I’ve ever done,” she wrote alongside the video.
In the video, the Piece Of Me singer sports a white satin dress and a lace veil. The video is set to Sting's song Fields of Gold, which includes lyrics about finding love in barley fields.
Prior to the announcement, Britney posted a cryptic image of an empty church. She later shared a video of herself relaxing by the pool in a yellow bikini.
The singer has remained silent about her relationship status since finalizing her split from Sam Asghari in May this year. Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023, just over a year after they married in June 2022. Britney was previously married to Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline. She shares two sons —Sean Preston Federline, 19, and Jayden James Federline, 18— with Federline.
Britney Spears' last full-length album, Glory, came out in 2016. She made a short comeback to music in 2022 with Elton John's Hold Me Closer and returned in July for her collaboration with will.i.am on the track Mind Your Business.
