Jamshedpur: The body of a 32-year-old youth, later identified as one Anshu Kumar Shah, was recovered from a drain near Refugee Colony under Golmuri area early on Sunday morning.
Initial investigation revealed that Anshu, a resident of Road No 5 at Bhuiyandih in Sidhgora, lost control of his bike while returning home in the small hours after attending a marriage reception at Tuiladungri, police said.
"The victim had sustained grievous head injuries after his bike skidded off the road. He fell into drain while the bike remained on the road side. As he could not get any medical relief he died in the drain itself," Golmuri thana OC Ramji Mahto told The Telegraph.
Mahto said the body and the bike were first spotted by a morning walker about 5 in the morning and informed police.
A family member said that Anshu was a dumper driver and had gone to attend the marriage reception of one of his friends.
Anshu's brother Gaurav Kumar said, "We were expecting him late in the night, but as he did not return till the small hours of Sunday we started searching for him in the morning."
"We asked about him at the friend's place where he had gone, but learnt that he had already left the place by 1am. While we were searching for him at other places, we got the news that police have recovered a body from near Refugee Colony and ultimately it was established that the body was that of Anshu," he added.
Gaurav said his brother would always ride the bike at a break-neck speed and would never wear a helmet.
"If he had been wearing a helmet, perhaps he would not have died," said the bereaved brother.
The body has been sent to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.
