Onir is back with yet another earnest take on queer rights, as his latest, Pine Cone, premieres as the opening film at the KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival on June 7. Based on a contemporary gay relationship post the scrapping of Section 377, Onir is expected to bring a lot of his own lived experiences as an openly queer public figure to the film. The director had previously revealed that the film follows a gay man’s relationships evolving over three decades, from 1999 when the first Gay Pride was held in India, to 2019, when the Supreme Court decriminalised homosexuality.
