Ratul was life itself — living every moment to its fullest — at work, at golf, with his family, with his friends. He was the warmest, most positive person we knew. We, and Calcutta, won’t be the same without him.

Full of warmth, always smiling, and fit to the core... yaaron ka yaar, Ratul! I was with him exactly 24 hours ago for a trial. He had an uncanny ability to manage four to five clients and friends simultaneously — ordering, giving trials. The tailors would handle the fittings, but they would wait for the final touch from the boss. Ratul would come, and with his sharp eye, he’d check if any adjustments were needed. He didn’t mind asking you to come again if possible; otherwise, he’d send his colleague and the tailor to your home or office, whatever was more convenient. But he always wanted perfection.

The next time I go, that final touch, that strong hand adjusting the outfit, will be missed. The beeline of friends at his apartment after hearing the news reaffirms the popularity, love, and affection he commanded. His passing is shocking and hard to believe.

After work, Ratul would always exchange notes on which parties we’d be attending in the next three, four days and what we should wear. “Work hard, party harder” was Ratul’s motto. He’d make a grand entrance in his inimitable style, hugging and greeting everyone with genuine warmth. Honestly, Kolkata’s parties won’t be the same anymore.

This loss feels impossible to repair. We were neighbours, growing up together and building our businesses at Park Mansion. Hari Om Uncle (Ratul’s father) and Ratul were more than friends — they were my personal designers, my guides. It’s hard to believe that we’ve lost them both. Life is too fragile. Too short. Ratul, you were the heartbeat of every room, the soul of every gathering. To Kommal and the boys, my heart is right there with you. I’m lost for words… Forever in every laugh, every memory, and in our hearts. Love you Partner!

Ratul was a delightful boy in school. Right height, smart and bright eyes. I taught English and theatre and he loved both. He was always one of the bright ones in class. I think he was also in a play with me in Darjeeling. It's a pity that I didn't meet him when I went to Kolkata last.

I met him last Friday at Miss Ginko. He was dancing around, so full of life and happiness. Charming and full of energy, Ratul was the life of every party, both in spirit and on the dance floor. For the past 20 years, he had been the one making all my suits, always suggesting the latest trends and styles. It’s heartbreaking that he is gone.

The Tollygunge Club, where Ratul was a member, shared a heartfelt obituary about his untimely demise.
