Ratul Sood, a prominent menswear designer based in Kolkata, passed away today, October 27, 2024. He succumbed to a heart attack while playing golf at a city club. Despite efforts to rush him to nearby MR Bangur Hospital, Ratul could not be revived. The incident occurred between 11.30am and noon.
Ratul was well-known for his expertise in bespoke tailoring, often merging Savile Row craftsmanship with Indian sensibilities. His brand “Sood” on Park Street (opposite Mocambo restaurant) was famous for its impeccable fits and modern styling. Ratul trained at the prestigious Savile Row Academy, which he considered a transformative experience in his career.
Beyond his work, Ratul was a familiar figure in Kolkata’s social circles, often celebrated for his sharp, dapper style and love for sports, especially golf and badminton. He was also known for collaborating with his wife, Kommal Sood, blending their talents in menswear and womenswear.
