How do you profess your love to your partner? With flowers and chocolates? With a cute note? Or maybe by dedicating a song to your loved one? How about jamming to a superhit Taylor Swift song on your wedding day? That’s exactly what Bengali bride Payel Das did, and it has taken social media by storm!
In a recent Instagram reel shared by the bride’s friend Atri Bhattacharya, the bride is seen hugging her newly wedded husband Rishav Biswan before breaking into an impromptu performance on Love Story.
Rishav, who has his own startup, and Payel, who works in radio, have been together for a few years and tied the knot in a Bengali ceremony at Mandeville Gardens on February 12. Talking about what led up to his colleague and ‘close friend’s’ internet sweeping moment, Atri said that Payel is a “softy at heart, and a trained dancer.” There were several songs playing as the bride walked down the aisle, and Payel had selected this number as part of the list as well. “Although she selected the songs, she did not choreograph anything. Being a Swiftie herself, she started dancing to Love Story in her own way the moment it started playing. By the time she was done, everyone was teary-eyed,” Atri said, recalling the event.
As it is with most weddings, everything was planned for the big day, but this was an impromptu moment and no one expected the video to blow up. “It was so candid and lively! We are all used to seeing sort of timid brides, but Payel is a loud, outspoken, crazy person,” Atri said, chuckling about his friend. Perhaps it is the bride’s vivaciousness — and Taylor, of course — that has caught everyone’s attention, especially that of fans of the multiple Grammy Award-winning singer.
After a lovely wedding ceremony, Payel set off for her honeymoon without a clue that soon her phone would blow up with notifications as the reel caught the attention of Instagram users and went viral. She called Atri late at night and “sounded very excited. She said it was totally worth it! It wasn’t planned at all and we didn’t expect it to blow up like this.”
While viewers get a spark of joy on seeing the video; it is the Swifties, who have loved the Bengali bride’s wedding moment. One of the comments reads, “As a crazy Swifty I approve this 101.” And that is the final verdict!
