As he wrapped up the North American leg of the tour where he performed his debut in Los Angeles, the electronic music artiste spoke to My Kolkata about his journey.
My Kolkata: Congratulations on scoring a 16-date Spring tour across six countries. How does it feel to accomplish such a tour?
Anyasa: Thank you! It's been an incredible journey, to pull off a tour like this, with the opportunity to experience such vibrant cities and to connect with fans from diverse spaces. Each show was a unique experience, and seeing the energy and enthusiasm of the crowds night after night was truly inspiring.
You have completed the North American tour with performances in San Diego and Dallas. How did the audiences differ in each city, and what were some memorable moments from the tour?
The audience in San Diego and Dallas brought their unique vibes to the table. Dallas was special as I performed at a big Memorial Day weekend festival called Ubbi Dubbi. It was fun to watch people come out early and enjoy the music.
With your extensive touring schedule, how do you manage to stay inspired and keep your performances fresh for each audience?
Travelling and experiencing different cultures are major sources of inspiration for me. I constantly seek new sounds and rhythms that I incorporate into my sets, keeping them dynamic and engaging. I have always looked to collaborate with artistes from across the globe and being on tour gives me the ability to do more of that — from both production and performance perspective.
The production must have been on an elite level. What stood out for you? Do you see India reaching the same levels in production in the coming years?
The production standards during this tour were exceptional, from sound quality to visual effects. What stood out was the seamless integration of technology to enhance the audience’s experience. India’s electronic music scene is evolving rapidly, and with the right infrastructure and support, we’ll be on track to achieve similar production standards in the near future.
How well would you say your unique sound — the blend of classical Indian elements and modern electronica — was perceived by the audience there?
It has been rewarding to see how audiences worldwide embrace the fusion of classical Indian elements with modern electronica. It resonates deeply with listeners who appreciate the blend of tradition and innovation. I am grateful for the positive reception and the opportunity to introduce this unique sound to new audiences.
How do you see the future of this fusion genre evolving?
The fusion genre has immense potential to grow and evolve. As more artistes experiment with combining traditional and contemporary influences, we'll see new subgenres emerge and boundaries being pushed. It's an exciting time for cross-cultural collaborations and musical exploration.
Coming to your music, can you share the story behind your single Closure and what it was like collaborating with British singer Luke Coulson?
Closure was a deeply personal track for me, inspired by moments of reflection and personal growth. Collaborating with Luke Coulson was fantastic as his soulful vocals added a new dimension to the track, elevating it to another level. It was a seamless creative process that resulted in a song I’m very proud of. It’s a special one for me since it’s the first Anyasa track that features English vocals.
As an artiste signed to Anjunadeep, what has been your experience working with the label, and how has it influenced your career?
Working with Anjunadeep has been a pivotal point in my career. The label’s support has allowed me to explore new musical territories and reach a global audience. One aspect that doesn’t get talked about enough is the Anjunadeep family. It is a community of incredibly talented artistes and industry professionals who continually inspire me to push boundaries and evolve as an artiste. Being part of such a community is unparalleled, with the family showing up for shows across cities.
With an exciting tour schedule ahead, including performances in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, what can fans expect from your upcoming shows?
Fans can expect immersive experiences that go beyond your usual night out. We just completed the first-ever live performance set featuring collaborators, at Technosphere in Mumbai, and that was highly resonant of the kind of experiences I want to curate and create. There’s a lot of new music headed everyone’s way with more collaborations, but through the year there will be some surprises in terms of visuals and production.
You have achieved a lot in your career so far. What are some of your future goals and aspirations as an artist?
My goals are to continue evolving sonically, exploring new genres and collaborations. I aspire to create musical experiences that resonate on a deeper level with listeners worldwide and contribute positively to the electronic music scene. Ultimately, I hope to leave a lasting impact and write music that stands the test of time.
