Jadavpur University’s vice chancellor’s office has come under CCTV surveillance since Monday.

The CCTV cameras which had been disabled by the former vice chancellor Suranjan Das in July 2015 following a students’ movement on the campus, were reactivated on Monday by officiating vice-chancellor Buddhadeb Sau.

Das had disabled the CCTVs when he joined the university in July 2015 in the aftermath of Hok Kolorob, a prolonged students’ movement in the campus that led to the forced resignation of vice chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarti in January 2015.

The present officiating vice chancellor, Sau, days after assuming office had told this newspaper that he was going to activate the CCTV in his chamber so that he could keep the footage of any purported misbehaviour inside his office.

The university is yet to install CCTVs at hostel gates.
