A school teacher died in a road accident while on her way to her workplace as an invigilator for the Higher Secondary examination on Saturday morning died in a road accident.
Lipika Patwari, 46, a teacher at a school in Maheshtala in South 24-Parganas was going to the school on the first day of the higher secondary examination when the accident happened near Taratala Nature Park on Saturday morning, police said.
The police said Lipika was riding pillion to her husband when a bus hit the scooter in which they were travelling.
The incident happened off Santoshpur Road at Taratala under the jurisdiction of Rabindranagar police station around 8.45am.
According to an eye witness, who runs a grocery shop, said the bus hit the scooter following which the woman was flung off the two-wheeler.
“The bus then ran her over. She had injuries on her head,” he said.
Both Lipika and her husband were taken to Vidyasagar state general hospital where she was declared dead.Her husband has been hospitalised with multiple injuries.
The police said both Lipika and her husband were wearing helmets.
According to sources in the hospital Lipika had suffered from internal head injuries that caused bleeding from her nose and mouth.
