Kolkata Metro earns Rs 8.3cr from scrap sales

The carrier authorities revealed the figures in a Facebook post on Monday

Metro Railway Kolkata has earned Rs 8.3 crore from scrap sales during the financial year 2021-22.

“Metro Railway has achieved remarkable scrap sale in the financial year 2021-2022 amidst Covid pandemic and post-pandemic economic condition,” stated a press release dated April 2.

Kolkata Metro exceeded the sales target of Rs 5cr from odds and ends, which the railway board had set this year.

During the 2020-21 financial year, Metro had earned 8.13cr from selling scrap and this year it saw an increase of 2.09 per cent.

Metro railway sells its scrap through e-auctioning to maintain transparency and probity.

Earlier this month, the carrier authorities revealed that Metro has earned Rs 19.45cr as non-fare revenue.

Kolkata Metro, which has generally been dependent on passenger revenue, has shown a renewed interest in generating non-fare revenue in the post-pandemic times.
