The New Town Kolkata Development Authority is anticipating heavy footfall at the new community puja, New Town Sarbojanin. So a parking space is being constructed in time for the festival.
Work underway to build the parking lot beside City Square
The lot is coming up opposite the entry gate at a side of the City Square, next to the Clock Tower, with a flank of the road being widened and laid in concrete. “We are getting many bookings for the space for fairs as it is slightly bigger than the fair ground near Biswa Bangla Gate. So the parking lot was planned. But we are speeding up the work to accommodate cars of visitors to the puja. They can use two other spaces to park as well — opposite Newtown Business Club and the plot for the upcoming health centre in AE Block,” said Debashis Sen, chairman, NKDA.
The puja, on the theme of Bangajanoni, is helmed by Prasanta Pal and will be opened on September 26 .
