Agriculture is an important motif of this art and in a prayer to keep the cooking pots of every household full, the pandal is being decorated with some 2,000 pots of various sizes. The smallest is eight inches and the largest - placed above the pandal - is 13ft high. It is seated on a pedestal and so appears to be 21ft high. This pot is empty, symbolising human desires and there are many rice-filled pots placed around the pandal as answers to our prayers. About 1,500 diyas are also being used in the decoration. The look: Rural Bengal is being showcased with swathes of kash flowers that have been grown in the park. Hay, paddi, dhekis, a well and other such typical motifs are on display and lanterns keep the village lit up in the evening along with sounds of insects, ulu and conchshells. While the Durga idol — to be worshipped — is holding on to her children, an added attraction is another pantheon placed in a balcony of a hut, performing activities common to rural life. Kartik and Ganesh are shown playing danguli, Lakshmi is skipping with a rope, Saraswati is playing ekka dokka (hopscotch). The idea is to depict the deities as humans and so Durga is shown with two hands instead of 10, with her third eye the only hint of her divinity. Shiva is shown in a corner of the balcony too, smoking a hookah.
