Cutouts of students in uniform with a message to follow traffic rules and regulate speed were installed on Loudon Street and Minto Park, near the La Martiniere for Boys and Girls campuses, on Wednesday.
“Visual aids have a greater impact on motorists and riders in generating behavioural changes. ‘Student silhouettes’ are an internationally accepted awareness tool and so, we thought of replicating it here,” said a senior officer of Kolkata police.
The project is likely to be replicated in all school zones across the city soon.
Earlier, the police had engaged students to hold placards and request motorists to stop honking near schools and hospitals or to wear helmets and seatbelts.
