EducationUSA at the United States India Educational Foundation (USIEF) hosted an education fair at the American Center on July 1 to help Indian students with pursuing higher studies in the US.

The Grand Re-Opening Mini-Fair saw a generous footfall of students, teachers and parents who came to enquire about the prospects of studying in the US in the post-pandemic situation.

Representatives from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, the University of San Francisco, the University of Kansas, the University of Delaware, George Mason University, Ohio University, and Foothill and DeAnza Community Colleges were present at the fair.

Courses, admission processes, merit requirements, alumni networks, internships and student job opportunities in the US were some of the topics explored by the visitors.

“I want to pursue a master’s degree in the US. I had some doubts regarding scholarships, fee structures and courses available at US universities. Some of them have been cleared by the university representatives here,” said Anushka Majumdar, an undergraduate English literature student in St. Xavier’s College.

“After the pandemic, a lot of the parents have been apprehensive about higher education abroad for their children. Meeting representatives here and connecting with the USIEF team helps me to clear these issues one on one,” said Sania Enam, guidance counsellor, Garden High International School.

Many school representatives brought their students to the fair so that they could directly put forward their questions to the university representatives.

Prasenjit Biswas came down all the way from Shillong to seek advice from the academic counsellors about his son’s higher education abroad.

“My son, currently in Class XI, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Shillong, wants to study music, philosophy and literature. He is also interested in electronics and mechanical engineering. We’re looking for a US university that offers all these subjects in a major-minor programme,” he said.

“The presentations made by the various university representatives have been quite comprehensive. Important topics like whether one needs a qualifying exam or needs some kind of support from the US Academy have been addressed as well,” he added.

Many school representatives brought their students to the fair so that they could directly put forward their questions to the university representatives.

“This is my first time at an education fair. It’s very helpful for undergraduate students to get proper guidance this way,” said Sreosree Das, a Class XII student at Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1 Ishapore.

“I’m interested in neuroscience and aerospace engineering. After talking to all the university representatives here, I found Ohio University to be the most appealing,” she added.
