‘Johnny Got His Gun’ (featuring Pauli Riikonen and Johannes Holopainen) by Finnish thespian Essi Rossi, is a one-man adaptation of Dalton Trumbo’s 1938 anti-war novel of the same name. The production made its debut in India at Kolkata Centre for Creativity Amphitheatre (at EM Bypass) as part of 'Leap Into'. The performance was preceded by a discussion on Adapting Literature to Performance with Malavika Banerjee (director of Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet), and The Arts and Peacebuilding opened by two short monologues by Titas Datta and Shadab Kamal, and a talk session between dramaturge and cultural interlocutor Rustom Bharucha and Essi Rossi about making art in the time of war.

Pickle Factory Season 4 in collaboration with Artsforward, has brought about creative expressions by international and Indian dancers, in a series of events titled Leap! The first weekend, February 10 and 11, saw ‘Leap Into’ at Kolkata Centre for Creativity (on EM Bypass) and featured ‘Johnny Got His Gun’ (the Indian premiere of a Finnish production) and explored avant-garde realms of art. Week two titled ‘Leap Through’ explored the body’s reactions to outdoor spaces at New Town Community Zone. The second week titled ‘Leap Through’ featured ‘Hear and Now’ and ‘Rhythm and Intoxication’ by CieLAROQUE on February 16 and 17, respectively, and on February 18, a 10-day workshop attained its fruition as ‘Everything Potentially is Something’ by Prashant More from Goa and Somya Kautia from Mumbai with dancers from across India.

The upcoming week’s pieces on March 2 and 3 under the section ‘Leap Out’ will feature ‘Finding Ground’ (providing a platform for new artistes) as a part of At the Still Point Act VI and Pickle Factory Leap Out and showcase four new works from Kassaragod, Mumbai and Calcutta at Goethe Institut or Max Mueller Bhavan (at Park Mansions).
