Varish Mohta and Anaahat Bindra prevail at the West Bengal State Championship

Two days of intense golf at Tollygunge Club also witnessed the Mahitosh Ray Memorial Junior Open

The 5th BGA West Bengal State Championship and Mahitosh Ray Memorial Junior Open, a co-sanctioned event by the Bengal Golf Association (BGA) and the IGU East Zone Junior Feeder Tour, concluded on September 12. Held at Tollygunge Club, the tournament was organised by Protouch Sports and BGA and featured over 40 junior golfers competing over two days. The event was played in memory of the late Mahitosh Ray, an avid golfer.

In the A&B Boys’ category, Varish Mohta emerged as the state champion with a total score of 147. Biswakrit Ghosh, who led after the first round, finished as the first runner-up with a score of 149. Dishan Ghosh secured third place with a score of 156. In the B Boys’ category, Varish Mohta also claimed victory as the state champion with a total score of 161. Rehan Naidu finished second with the same score of 161, and Andrew Baid took third place with a total score of 167.

Vivaan Jawanpuria won the C Boys’ category with a score of 172, becoming the state champion. Adityajit Gupta and Armaan Bhoopal tied for second place with a score of 174. Ayaan Mimani won the D Boys’ category with a total score of 187, followed by Dhruv D. Patodia and Ayushman Sana with scores of 201 and 202, respectively. In the E Boys’ category, Jayansh Lakhotia claimed victory and the title of state champion with a score of 90. Aativeer Jain and Yugaansh Agarwal finished second and third with scores of 96 and 104, respectively.

Anaahat Bindra won the A&B Girls’ category with a score of 149, earning the title of state champion. Mehak Lohan from the Ladies category came in second with a score of 160, and Ananya Roy took third place with a score of 179. In the C Girls’ category, Naina Dinodiya won with a score of 203, becoming the state champion. Amaira Gulati won the D Girls’ category with a score of 183, securing the state champion title. Vaanyaa Rustagi and Vaasvi Himatsingka finished second and third with scores of 194 and 243, respectively. In the E Girls’ category, Ahana Khaitan won with a score of 89, claiming the state champion title, while Novika Kakkar and Anwita Sinha finished second and third with scores of 91 and 104, respectively. The event concluded with a high level of enthusiasm and skill from all participants, showcasing their potential for future golf tournaments.
