Who said psy-trance is dead? Well, the community would think otherwise as Portugal-based artiste Avalon was present at Club Fenicia. The premises of Club Fenicia was packed with ragers on September 24, as the English artiste spun his psychedelic set for the very first time in the city. Joining him were the other psy stalwarts namely StarLab and Spinal Fusion and, of course, our city-based Outlaw and Freaquency. A chat with the artiste post his gig hosted by Moonrock Experiences.
How’s your tour going?
The Avalon six-show city tour with Future sound is going great. I love India and my fans here. Their energy and love for the music is something special.
How did it feel to play for the first time in Kolkata?
I have always wanted to play in Kolkata. I have heard about the music scene for a long time here and since it started growing, I got my chance to experience it.

Before coming here you toured Ozora and Boom. How were the two festivals?
Boom and Ozora festivals this year were probably the pinnacles of my career. Closing Ozora is one of the biggest honours and playing the other day at Boom this year was one for the books. I heard over 40,000 people were there at the festival.

How is the psy-trance scene in London?
The underground psy-trance scene in London is where it started for me. It has a renaissance recently and it has really come back in a big way! Since the pandemic I moved to sunny Portugal now, my new base.

Yes, I have started my collaborations with two top producers. I had an unforgettable night at Club Fenicia. Thank you Kolkata, the city has an amazing crowd! I loved my first time here and I hope to see you all again soon.
