Omkar Music Academy, Bangalore inaugurated its branch in Calcutta with Music Under One Sky, a unique event held at 39/2A Purna Das Road on June 21, World Music Day. It started with a performance in Raga Miyan ki Malhar, with the popular bandish Bole re papihara by Anjana Nath and a Ghazal by Ivy Banerjee. Indian classical vocalist and founder of Omkar Music Academy, Pandit Iman Das' melodious presentation smoothly blended electrifying taans with unusual Western patterns and was ably supported by Indrajit Dey on the keyboards and Parimal Chakraborty on the tabla. The next performance in Raga Khamaj saw the unbelievable confluence of colours and shades of Bengali folk, Bhajans and Bollywood songs, all brought together by Iman Das. Iman and Ivy then sang a duet Thumri Jao kadar nahi bolo which filled the atmosphere with the sweet fragrance of nostalgia. Iman then sang a magical jazz sargam improvisation and a popular Bollywood song, sargams blended with Deewana kiye shyam in Raga Kirwani, which left the audience spellbound. The last piece in Raga Bhairavi saw everyone jamming enthusiastically and displaying their musical prowess as Bangalore-based Iman and city-based Anjana and Ivy sang Raske bhare tore nain, Hello and Aye na baalam, with Indrajit and Parimal offering brilliant support again on the keyboard and tabla.
