The Bengal Classic 2024, the ninth leg of the IGU East Zone Junior Feeder Tour, commenced at the golf course of Fort William Environmental Park and Training Area (FWEPTA) on August 10. The subsequent rounds were played on August 11. It was an exhilarating display of talent and determination. Along with extraordinary sportsmanship, quality craft and skill display caught the attention of the players and the audience.
After the second and the final rounds, Lakshya Agarwal, from the A and B Boys’ category secured the first position, scoring at a total of 163, the total par being 144. Shaurya Bhatnagar, from the A and B Boys’ category, stood second with a tally of 164, putting up a close fight.
Arghya Shah, who was leading with a score of 81 in the A and B Boys’ after the first round on August 10, secured the third position. With a score of 164, Shah captured the lead in the B Boys’ category. Shah was followed by Rehan Naidu, who scored 168, with an extraordinary performance in the second round. He went on to become the first runner-up from the B Boys’ category.
Krishiv Rungta from the C Boys’ category scored a 164 as well. Rungta persisted with his first position from the first round and secured a win. Arkoprovo Chowdhury, who was mounting a valiant pursuit of Rungta in the first round, secured the position of the first runner-up from C Boys with a score of 170.
Ayaan Mimani and Dhruv Patodia from D Boys, too, held on to their positions after the first round, and went on to become the winner and the first runner-up at the end of the second round with scores of 192 and 208, respectively.
Jayansh Lakhotia and Yugaansh Agarwal from E Boys, who played a total of 18 holes in the two rounds, scored a total of 96 and 99, respectively, to retain their respective ranks after the first round and secure the first and the second positions, respectively.
Amaira Gulati, from D Girls, secured the first position with a score of 187 at the end of the second round, followed by Vaanyaa Rustagi, who scored 199. Khushi Baid and Anwita Sinha, from E Girls, held on to their respective ranks and emerged as the winner and the runner up, respectively, with scores of 111 and 116 at the end of the final round. Baid and Sinha played a total of 18 holes after the second round came to an end. Aativeer Jain from F Boys and Girls also played a total of 18 holes at the end of the second round and emerged victorious with a score of 101 from his category.
The tournament remains a testament to great teamwork and a display of refined strategy and skills. As always, the championship set the bar high for young golfers, who are looking forward to participating in the upcoming tours.
