Till 11.20am, Kolkata Traffic Police did not post any list of programmes that may affect the city traffic on Thursday (3.10.2024). However, KTP posted a notification regarding Mahalaya, Durga Puja and Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja immersions between October 2 and 18.
Railway minister at Sealdah
Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited Sealdah station on Wednesday and inaugurated a slew of projects. The extension of five platforms (No. 1 to 5) of Sealdah station to accommodate 12-coach EMU local trains instead of nine-coach trains was one of them. He also inaugurated passenger train services over Nashipur Railway Bridge in Murshidabad, establishing connective rail link between both sides of the Bhagirathi river. The minister alleged that several railway projects in Bengal were stuck in land logjams because of the state government.
“The minister said that the Kolkata Metro Railway track length could be extended only up to 28km over 40 years from 1972 to 2014. Whereas… from 2014 to 2024… Narendra Modi has made it possible to lay 38km of Kolkata Metro Railway network… The minister also urged the state government to extend cooperation for 61 railway projects in Bengal which are pending due to land-related bottlenecks…” the railways said in a communication.
