Rally alert
A ‘flaming torch rally’ will be held from Highland Park to Shyambazar on Friday evening to demand justice for the postgraduate trainee raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Joint Democratic Front, a forum of several organisations, has given the call for the rally. The rally is scheduled to start at 4pm and will be on the road till 10pm, the organisers said. Police said traffic diversions will be made as and when required along EM Bypass and Chittaranjan Avenue.
Cyclonic system
A cyclonic circulation is likely to take shape over north Andaman Sea around Saturday, the Met office said. The system is likely to move north-westwards and under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over north-west and adjoining central Bay of Bengal around September 23, it said.
