The International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), the globally recognised institute for hospitality education, has recently joined hands with Marriott International to launch the IIHM-Marriott Learning Centre at IIHM’s Global Campus in Salt Lake, last month. The inauguration event was attended by Gaurav Singh, market vice president, south & east India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Marriott International; Lizanne Pinto, area director of human resources, south & east India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka; Sunil Kumar, general manager of JW Marriott Hotel Kolkata; Manoj Jangid, hotel manager of Fairfield by Marriott Kolkata; Suborno Bose, chief mentor, founder and chairman of IIHM; and Sanjukta Bose, co-founder of IIHM and director of IIHM Calcutta.
This state-of-the-art learning facility aims to groom the students with IIHM’s learning and development expertise, and industry knowledge and resources of Marriott. While industry leaders will impart the students with the necessary skills and valuable insights for functioning in real-world hotel operations, Marriott will have access to a pool of talented individuals to enhance their workforce. Its contemporary infrastructure and advanced technology will provide students with a unique learning environment in hospitality education involving hands-on experience in various aspects of the hospitality industry, including front office operations, food and beverage service, culinary arts, housekeeping, and event management. After the inauguration, the industry professionals had a brief session with the students.

As part of this partnership, Marriott India will provide extensive training to students in the second and third year of Bachelor and Diploma courses in Hospitality Management at IIHM. This training includes mentorship, career guidance, and guest lectures, aimed to impart industry trends and enrich the overall learning experience for the students. Moreover, IIHM students will receive first preference for placement in Marriott hotels throughout India for their industrial training programmes.
“Our overall vision is to work closely with the hospitality industry. In this program, the industry experts themselves are teaching and the students get internships and placement opportunities in top Marriott hotels in India. It’s a great association that we look forward to,” said Suborno Bose. Gaurav Singh said: “The collaboration between IIHM and MI is intended to be immersive and provide a partnership that extends beyond the classroom. Seasoned professionals within the organisation will engage with the students providing insights and sharing their experiences on growing careers within the hospitality industry. With access to state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology, students stand to really gain with the all-round development the curriculum will provide.”
