Shamiana, the all-day fine-dine at Taj City Centre New Town, served as the perfect venue for Paints & Strokes, an exclusive art exhibition that is the first in a series of experience-based art events at the hotel. With The Taj Hotels boasting of over 4,000 artworks and over 100 museum-quality masterworks as part of its collection, this event was a step forward in continuing the patronage.
The exhibition showcased the works of three artists — Dhiren Sasmal, Sambhu Saha and Gautam Sarkar — and each of them has a distinct style of their own.
A Dhiren Sasmal Krishna-themed painting. The colours from this were reflected in the floral arrangements as well as the food on display.
“I have very simple ideas, and my work is essentially a reflection of my vision. I generally create landscapes, but my current work at display also has a few mythological pieces, mostly centred around Goddess Durga,” said Sambhu Saha, whose work is inspired by the legendary Gopal Ghosh.
The event was a confluence of all forms of art, and these flute artistes serenaded the guests with their mellifluous renditions.
“We are delighted to host an event of such calibre that brings together such wonderful artistes and their works. We look forward to hosting them each month,” said Sourav Ghosal, general manager, Taj City Centre New Town
“For the paintings at display here, I have used pathachitra style of work and incorporated mythological figures of Durga, Krishna and Ganesha,” said Dhiren Sasmal, who is known for his linear execution and mastery over media.
Gautam Sarkar’s works rely on fast brushstrokes and vibrant use of colour. We particularly loved his life-like depiction of women folk.
Art connoisseurs Sunita and Nupur Vaswani (right) came in to support the event. “I love Dhiren Sasmal’s work and own a few of his pieces, and I am glad that I could be here and extend my support to art,” said Sunita.
