XLRI: 22 students test Covid positive

Over 100 tests have been conducted and some reports are still awaited

Covid has spread its tentacles in XLRI campus. As many as 22 B- school students were found Covid positive on Thursday.

Concerned over the spike in Covid -19 cases in the steel city, the XLRI management in collaboration with East Singhbhum district administration, had conducted random tests on students staying on the campus.

RT- PCR reports confirmed that 22 students have tested positive. Over 100 tests have been conducted and some reports are still awaited.

An official said the institute has taken a pro-active approach under the XLRI policy for Covid-19 and by creating isolation areas within the campus to combat, contain and manage the spread of the infections related to Covid-19.

Students who tested positive were isolated in the MDP Residence of the campus with self-contained rooms and room service facilities.

Medical supplies, food and counselling services are also provided by the B- school administration by following the mandatory guidelines and directions issued by the state government.

Such Isolation facility located at MDP area was today also inspected by officials of district administration on Thursday.

MDP Residence area was declared containment zone within the XLRI campus.

Though the isolated RT-PCR positive students are showing mild symptoms and are doing well the XLRI administration is monitoring the situation closely to ensure full recovery and rule out any chance of spread, said the official.

Advisories are also issued by the XLRI administration to other campus residents to strictly follow social distancing, wear masks and comply with the Institute policy on Covid - 19 and the directions of the state government.

Apart from the advisories issued students tested negative have been asked to vacate the campus.

Students have already started vacating the campus to their respective homes following Covid safety protocols.

Notably, the Coronavirus graph in East Singhbhum surges with 658 fresh cases reported in last 24 - hours, pushing the active case load to 1600.

Earlier on Tuesday, 402 cases were reported in the district.
