A boy was arrested hours after police recovered dead bodies of a mother-daughter duo with stab injuries from their residence near Barnawal Dharamshala in Deoghar on Thursday morning.
Neighbours and local residents claimed the boy, a minor, was the son of the woman who was killed, but police said he was “related” to family and that the crime was a result of a family dispute over money.
The woman has been identified as Sunita Devi (45). Her daughter is Bharti Kumari (22).
Deoghar SP Piyush Pandey said: “We have recovered dead bodies of a mother-daughter duo from the first floor of their house after receiving information from local residents. A special task force led by SDPO Deoghar Vikash Chandra Srivastava led the investigation and nabbed the accused from Jasidih within a few hours of the crime.”
The SP said they have recovered the murder weapon and a blood-stained shirt that helped them nab the boy. “The accused has admitted his involvement in the incident and legal action is being taken against him.”
The incident came to light in the morning when the woman’s husband, Gopal Prasad, who was sleeping on the ground floor, went upstairs and discovered their bodies.
Gang robs senior citizen near bank
Unidentified people robbed Rs 90,000 kept in the dickey of a two-wheeler near Tiwari Rest House in Garhwa, on Thursday afternoon.
The theft occurred when Qyamuddin went to draw his pension from a Bank of Baroda branch.
On his return, Qyamuddin was shocked to see the broken lock of the dicky, and the cash, which he had drawn from the bank earlier, missing.
'I had withdrawn this money from the bank to spend for my daughter’s wedding,” said Qyamuddin, a retired teacher.
The miscreants might have kept an eye on Qyamuddin, said cops.
On the base of victim's complaint, police lodged an FIR against the unknown persons, and investigation is underway.

FIR, if caught on the road without face-cover
Don’t go outside your house without covering your face, or you risk being booked for violating norms of the Disaster Management Act and the Epidemic Act, appealed the Bokaro administration to residents on Thursday.
They also appealed to shopkeepers not to sell products to customers who come to shops without a face mask do not follow social distancing.
“A case will be registered against those who are found without face masks in public places or roads,” said deputy commissioner, Mukesh Kumar.
He also said that triple layer masks are available in the market, and even a three-layer face-cover made at home can be used to avoid the Covid-19 infection and protect others.
If they still cannot manage a mask, people should use towels, handkerchiefs, scarves etc.
Shopkeepers, petrol pump workers and vegetable or fruit vendors may not buy or sell their goods without wearing masks, and service will be given only to those who come wearing masks in petrol pumps.
Biker dies, brother injured in truck collision
A 32-year-old biker was killed and the pillion rider critically injured after a bike collided head-on with a speeding Hyva truck on Bhawnathpur Kharaundhi road near Bhagwan Ghati, Garhwa around 9 pm on Wednesday.
Vikas Kumar Gupta was riding on his way to Sisari village from Belpahadi, along with his 18-year-old brother Chhotu Prasad riding pillion, when he lost the control and collided with the speeding Hywa truck. Vikas died on the spot.
An injured Chhotu was taken to the Community Health Centre, Bhawnathpur, and is undergoing treatment.
Bhawnathpur police station officer-in-charge CB Singh said reckless driving seemed to be the primary reason behind the fatal accident.
'Both were on their way to Sisari village for work, and collided with the unidentified truck that was coming from opposite direction. After the accident, the truck driver fled on his vehicle'.
Police have sent Vikas's body to Garhwa hospital for post-mortem and have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver.

Youth killed, three injured in Bokaro road accident
An 18-year-old was killed when an out-of-control pickup van overturned near the railway gate on the Bokaro-Ramgarh highway on Thursday evening.
Three, including the driver were injured in the accident, when a truck driver rashly tried to overtake the pickup van and lost control, turning turtle.
The injured have been admitted to Sadar Hospital for treatment.
The people who were in the vehicle were vegetable vendors, bringing their lot from Dundibgah Market to Gola in Ramgarh.
A police officer said the deceased, Suraj Kumar Rai was a resident of Dundibagh, and died on the spot. Sub-divisional officer, Chas, Shashi Prakash Singh assessed the spot.
