The early arrival of monsoon has resulted in an increase in the water level at Charwa Dam by 5ft.

Charwa is the lone reservoir catering to the water needs of the city.

Every summer, the water level touches its lowest mark, but this year due to rains, it has reached 19ft, the highest ever during this period of time.

The dam, which is situated only 5km from Hazaribagh, has the capacity to store 30ft of water.

In 2018 and 2019, the water was only 12ft in June.

No shortage of water has been reported, a source said. The source said this was due to the cool weather in May and the area receiving rains after short intervals.

The dam was constructed in 1952 by the Damodar Valley Corporation to meet the water demands of the 30,000 town residents.

According to officials, the dam supplies 12 lakh gallons of water -- six lakh gallons in the morning and same quantity in the evening.

Officials said the way it is raining this year, they are hopeful that there won’t be any shortage of water till the next monsoon.

Twenty-three employees work at the dam in three shifts.

Work is on to supply water to the city from another reservoir, called Konar Dam, situated in Vishnugarh. Underground pipes are being laid with an aim to give water to each and every house under the municipal corporation. The Konar project is designed to cater to the need of the town for the next 30 years.
