The court of the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner recently set aside the order of the Jamshedour land reform deputy commissioner (LRDC) pertaining to a case of sale of tribal land in Jugsalai locality.

Deputy commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla has also ordered for eviction from buildings set up on a plot of land originally belonging to Lalit Sardar within three months.

Demka Soy, Jamshedpur convenor of the Bhumi Bachao Sammanvay Samiti, has in a press note issued on Saturday said that Pancham Sardar had been fighting since long for getting back his ancestral land which had been sold to a third party illegally.

According to Soy, Sardar’s father had allowed Hazara Singh to stay on the 1.45-hectare land 42 years ago. Later on Hazara's three sons had sold the land to four others, who have set up a market complex on the land.

According to Soy, Sardar had in 2015 filed a petition for getting back his father's land under provisions of the CNT Act. “The LRDC... had in his order dated January 4, 2016 rejected the petition giving relief to those who had bought the land from Hazara Singh's sons and had set up business complex on it,” said Soy.

He called for a probe into how tribal land was sold to non-tribals.
