Train services in the Howrah-Tatanagar railway section via Kharagpur under South Eastern Railway zone became normal in the small hours of Sunday.

Railway officials at Garden Reach, the headquarters of South Eastern Railway, confirmed that the movement of trains, which was affected due to public agitation against Citizenship (Amendment) Act at Mourigram and other stations on Saturday, got streamlined in the wee hours of Sunday.

“All trains are running as per schedule today (Sunday). There is no cancellation, diversion or short-termination. But because of Saturday’s disruption, some of the long-distance trains are running late,” said Sanjay Ghosh, chief public relations officer of South Eastern Railway.

The Howrah-bound Steel Superfast Express left Tatanagar station on its scheduled time at 6.10am. On Saturday, Steel Express was short-terminated at Macheda from where it returned to Tatanagar. The Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Express, which was detained at Tatanagar station on Saturday, left for its onward journey on Sunday evening.

The Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express ran, reached Tatanagar at 6.30pm on Sunday evening after a delay of 15 minutes. The Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express was cancelled on Saturday. The Howrah-Kurla Express, which runs via Tatanagar, was running as per schedule, railway officials confirmed.

Tatanagar station director H.K. Balmuchu said: “No trains were cancelled today (Sunday). Some of the trains were running late. We are hopeful that complete normality will be restored by tomorrow (Monday).”
